Nemaska is the smallest Cree community of the region and is located west of the Champion Lake. In this village, you will find the réserve faunique Assinica and réserve faunique des Lacs-Albanel-Mistassini-et-Waconichi. The Lacs-Albanel-Mistassini-et-Waconichi reserve is the largest in the province of Quebec and conceals the largest natural freshwater body: Lake Mistassini. The particular shape of the lake is a heritage left by glaciers some thousands of years ago. Many activities can be done in these reserves where fishermen will be pleased!
South of the Albanel Lake, the Témiscamie River will guide you to the Colline Blanche and the Antre de marbre. The white colour of the hill is due to the presence of quartzite. In its slopes, you will discover a natural cave that was described as an “antre de marbre” (marble cave) in the 1730s. It is considered as an archaeological site and can be visited in summer only with the prior authorization of the Mistassini band council.
